Why we love Oscars fashion

The Oscars are a great excuse for the biggest stars of Hollywood to get dolled-up to the max. Which is our cue to ‘oooh’ and ‘aaaah’ over their designer dresses, fabulous outfits and glittering accessories.

With the world’s top designers and fashion houses at their fingertips, we love to see what our favourite stars have chosen to wear. To marvel at the latest designs and take inspiration from the styles on show.

How can you get the red carpet jewellery look?

Of course we appreciate that Hollywood stars are wearing jewellery most of us could only dream about. In fact, the jewellery on show is so valuable that almost all of it is only on loan.

Now, we may not have jewellers like Tiffany & Co, Bvlgari and Cartier on speed dial and the diamond encrusted designs may be out of reach, but that doesn't mean the red carpet look is. If you know what pieces to look out for, you too can look good enough to walk the Hollywood way.

Here’s a quick rundown of the jewellery trends we spotted on the red carpet this week and how you can recreate them.

Statement bracelets and decorative bangles

One of the most noticeable stars of the show this year (in jewellery terms) was the statement bracelet or bangle. Margot Robbie accessorised her little black dress with a swirling gold and glitter chunky bangle. Jamie Lee Curtis also opted for the classic black dress, accessorising her Dolce and Gabbana number with an amazing statement cuff bracelet. Encrusted with platinum and sapphires, the bracelet covered her entire forearm and took centre stage of the outfit. Zendaya also wore some beautiful arm candy. Opting for a more decorative lattice-type bracelet with oodles of sparkle.

Get the chunky cuff bracelet look without the designer price tag by investing in your own statement pieces. Les Georgettes cuff bangles, for example, come in a variety of designs and trending colours.

And when it comes to statement bangles, Swarovski knows how to bring the sparkle, with an impressive collection of crystal encrusted bracelets and bangles in various sizes and styles. If you prefer something a little more delicate and understated however, check out Kit Heath’s silver pieces. Beautifully sculpted with hints of sparkle.

Sparkle on sparkle: Layered crystal necklaces

Several of the world’s red carpet wonders wore more than one layer of dazzling diamonds this week. Florence Pugh, for example, chose a gorgeous jewel-encrusted rope necklace, draped in layers around her neck and shoulders. While Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron layered diamond necklaces, mixing chokers and pendants.

If, like us, a jewellery box stuffed with diamonds is unlikely, crystals are a much more affordable choice! And the go-to sparkle expert is always going to be Swarovski. Bringing Hollywood bling to your wardrobe with chunky crystal chokers, decorative pendants and traditional tennis necklaces galore.

If you prefer a slightly subtler touch of sparkle, look to Georgini. Their collection of dazzling but demure diamond-like pendants come in an array of delicate designs. Each one pretty enough to wear on its own but also lovely in layers.

Celebrity ring stacks

Another jewellery trend we noticed gracing the Oscars red carpet this year, was the ring stack. Andrea Riseborough, Vanessa Hudgens, Florence Pugh and Billie Eilish all wore curated ring combinations. Billie wore a combination of silver designs across both hands. Florence wore several jewel-encrusted sparklers. While Vanessa Hudgens added a few extra gold bands to accompany her wedding and engagement ring.

Daisy London has a whole collection of rings in silver and gold that are made to be stacked. Stackable designs ranging from the simple and sculptural to the more decorative and detailed. Ania Haie and Annie Haak also have stackable rings on offer in a treasure trove of designs from charm rings to gemstone variations.

To make even more of a statement add several large gemstone rings into the mix. Such as the beautiful stone rings from Sarah Alexander, or Shyla’s vintage look glass series.

Other Oscars jewellery looks to try

Alongside layered sparkle, banging bangles and stacks of finger fancies, here are a few more standout looks from the red carpet.

Pink and yellow

These two colours appeared in abundance. Emma Stone wore a gorgeous yellow sapphire necklace by Louis Vuitton, while Zendaya and Ariana Grande were pretty in pink. You too can channel some of that red carpet pink energy with Amelia Scott's pink bow earrings.

Statement earrings and classic studs

There were also some glorious examples of drop earrings and classic stud designs on show. As mentioned above, pink made a particular feature. Ariana Grandé, for example, wore beautiful pink Tiffany teardrop earrings. While Zendaya showed off an enviable pair of chunky pink Bvlgari drop earrings.

By contrast, Billie Eilish chose a pair of simple pearl studs to accompany her outfit. While Emma Stone and Emily Blunt opted for a simple but beautiful pair of diamond studs - a classic and classy choice for any big night out.

Linked sparkles

Some of our favourite designs on show were stunning necklaces that combined a chain-like appearance with beautiful stones. Brittany Snow, for instance, wore a gorgeous example by Pomellato, with huge blue sapphires embedded in the gold chain. While America Ferrera wore a similar Pomellato number with rubies. Matching magnificence

In addition to individual glamorous pieces, there we spotted several matching jewellery sets. America Fererra’s beautiful Pomellato necklace had an accompanying ring. As did Margot Robbie’s amazing Fred Leighton bracelet. Ariana Grande’s pink teardrop earrings from Tiffany were paired with a stunning matching pendant necklace. While Lily Gladstone wore gorgeous diamond and sapphire matching earrings and a necklace from Bvlgari.
